Description
As you might guess, Huangshan Maofeng comes from the Huangshan, or the Yellow Mountain region in Anhui Province. As with many of Huangshan’s teas, it is one of the most famous in China and favored by those who prefer a potent green tea flavor. The area is probably most famous for it’s beautiful mountain scenery, but many are also familiar with Huangshan’s notoriety as a tea producing region.
Huangshan Maofeng is the quintessential green tea. It has all the typical flavor characteristics one would expect of a fresh green tea. Maofeng uses long leaves that are rolled, unbroken, and then quickly pan-fried to lock in the freshness and maintain its strong green color. When sealed and stored at a cold temperature, one can also taste that the freshness was locked in. This tea has more subtle notes of fruitiness than many other green teas, but it can also have a quite potent green-leaf flavor if infused with high-temperature water or steeped too long. This tea is for the careful tea drinker or those who prefer a kick to their green teas.
